In some industries (especially typical for fashion and apparel) there is no necessity to create product combinations for all possible product attributes combinations.
For example, imagine that you have “T-shirt“ product and it has the following attributes:
Color: White, Black, Green
Size: XS, S, M, L, XL
In Odoo standard when new attribute is created, by default it gets “Variants Creation Mode“ = “Instantly“ (see below screen). Meaning that when product is created – Odoo itself will generate all possible product variants for every attribute values combination. As you can see 15 variants are generated as on screenshot above.
But in some cases when product is downloaded to Odoo to e-Commerce System (Shopify, Magento 2, Prestashop, Woocommerce) some variants just doesn’t exist. For example, for XS size there might be no green color etc.
In this case what you need to do is just after you downloaded Attributes from e-Commerce System (done during initial import) and created them in Odoo (or mapped to existing attributes) you need to set on Odoo attribute “Variants Creation Mode“ = “Dynamically“.
“Variants Creation Mode“ should be set before there are products that are using this attribute. Because Odoo will not allow to change it after there are related products being added
Only after that you can start importing products from e-Commerce System to Odoo.
