If a product is deleted in Odoo, will it also be deleted in the e-commerce system?

No, our connectors do not delete products in Shopify, WooCommerce, PrestaShop, or Magento 2 — and this is intentional.

Deleting a product can be a risky action for several reasons:

  • Odoo is typically used as a backend system, often by warehouse or operations staff who may not be aware that their changes can affect a customer-facing website.

  • Your e-commerce platform is managed by your marketing or sales team, who often create detailed product pages, SEO content, and media-rich descriptions that don’t exist in Odoo.

So if a product is deleted in Odoo — even by accident — it could result in the permanent loss of valuable content on your e-commerce site and make the product disappear from the storefront.

What to do instead?

Use the “Archive” action in Odoo instead of deleting the product. This hides the product from the Odoo interface without removing it entirely.

What happens after archiving?

Archiving a product sets its active field to False in Odoo. If product status synchronization is enabled in your connector (see Will product information be updated in external system if changed in Odoo?), the connector will automatically deactivate the product in your e-commerce store as well.
