Printing Fails with HTTP 403 Forbidden Errors

If Direct Print suddenly stops working for all printers and you see HTTP 403 Forbidden or download HTTP response status code 403 errors, one possible reason is that your public IP address has been temporarily blocked by our printing provider’s security system.

This article explains how to identify this situation and what to do next.

Symptoms

You may experience one or more of the following:

  • All print jobs fail.

  • Print jobs remain in the Error state.

  • The Direct Print Client is connected, but documents are not printed.

  • Printing suddenly stops without any configuration changes.

If you review the Direct Print Client logs or diagnostic information, you may also see errors similar to:

HTTP 403 Forbidden

or

download HTTP response status code 403

Cause

To protect the printing infrastructure from malicious traffic, our printing provider occasionally blocks public IP address ranges that generate suspicious activity.

In rare cases, a legitimate customer may receive a public IP address that belongs to one of these blocked ranges. When this happens, requests from your network are rejected with an HTTP 403 Forbidden response, preventing Direct Print from downloading print jobs.

Solution

Please note that this is only one of the possible causes of HTTP 403 errors.

If you suspect this issue, please contact us through our Support Portal:

https://ventortech.atlassian.net/servicedesk/customer/portal/1/group/-1

If possible, include:

  • Your current public IP address.

  • A screenshot or log containing the HTTP 403 error.

We will verify whether your public IP address has been affected by a security block. If necessary, we will contact our printing provider and request that your IP address be whitelisted.
